Welcome! You may have arrived here through the QR code I shared with my Braille Bracelet project. If you're not familiar with it, I'd love to tell you more.
This project is part of my Girl Scout Gold Award. The title of my Gold Award is "Seeing Differently." This project is inspired by my desire to raise awareness about blindness. My goal is to educate people on how blind individuals read and write and to show that they lead normal, fulfilling lives. As a tech enthusiast, I’ve created 3D-printed beads that feature print letters on one side and Braille letters on the other. These beads form bracelets that translate the alphabet from print to Braille. I chose bracelets because of their pop culture significance as symbols of friendship. Additionally, these bracelets can serve as conversation starters to further spread my message. Braille bracelets are only a small part of my initiative to spread blind awareness. I plan to give presentations to local organizations on the importance of accessibility, educate fifth-grade students on disability inclusion, and illustrate that blind individuals are not fundamentally different from others. I will also produce videos for social media showcasing the daily lives of blind people and the accommodations they require. By distributing these bracelets, I aim to promote understanding and appreciation of Braille literacy and blind awareness. This project also fulfills the requirements of my Girl Scout Gold Award, which focuses on creating a lasting impact. I’m excited to share this initiative globally, spreading knowledge and raising awareness. Many people are unaware of the independence of blind individuals and how best to assist them. By providing informative materials and a unique 3D-printed Braille gift, I hope to make a difference and demonstrate that people with blindness have regular hobbies and interests and lead fulfilling lives.
Social Media
Social media is a great way to show how different people with blindness live daily lives, while being themselves and engaging with fans of what they do. Below you will find a list of blind influencers and YouTubers who cover many topics (not only blindness-related) who live beyond their disabilities.
Known as the Blind Film Critic, Tommy Edison, who has been blind since birth, uses humor to answer the most popular questions about living without sight and faces challenges which test his other senses.
